In a letter addressed to the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, Abdourahmane Sarr, Kyeh Kim, Acting Vice President of the U.S. Department of State for Operations of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact, announced good news for the country. "I am pleased to inform you that, on March 18, 2025, the MCC received confirmation that the request for an exception to the suspension of activities of the 'Senegal Power Compact' was approved by the U.S. Department of State," she stated in her letter, which was reported by Enquête.

Kyeh Kim continued: "This exception allows for up to $83.11 million in MCC funds to be allocated to resume work on the Senegal Power Compact during the remaining period of the pause, which is scheduled to end on April 20, 2025."

Upon taking office, Donald Trump suspended US public aid for 90 days, allowing time for evaluation. Until a final decision is made regarding the programs and projects frozen by the new US President, the Senegal Power Compact will therefore continue. This waiver is a breath of fresh air for the new authorities in a context of budgetary tension.
