Campagne agricole 2025-2026 : inondations et attaques de chenilles préoccupent les producteurs à Kédougou
The 15th weekly monitoring report for the 2025-2026 agricultural season, covering the period from August 28 to September 3, reports a mixed situation in the Kédougou region. While the rains are supporting crop growth, they have also caused flooding in several localities, while armyworm attacks are worrying producers.
Floods in Saraya Department
Recent rains have caused flooding in the villages of Saroudja, Guémédji, Wassangara, Satadougou and Missirah Dantila, in the department of Saraya.
In total, nearly 50 hectares of crops (corn, rice, peanuts) were damaged. A census of the affected areas and the number of victims is still underway in these affected areas.
Rainfall: a generally satisfactory situation
Comparison with the previous year reveals a good distribution of rainfall. Of the fifteen rain gauges installed in the region, only Dakately recorded a deficit, with -66 mm compared to 2024.
Crops at advanced stages
According to the report, four waves of sowing were recorded this season.
• For cereals and peanuts, the first three waves are in the generative stages, while the fourth is still in the vegetative stage.
• Cotton is showing a similar progress: the first seedlings are flowering, while the most recent ones are in the growth stage.
• The other crops (fonio, rice, sorghum) are continuing to develop normally, with good health, apart from the threat of insects on the corn.
A persistent threat: the armyworm
The phytosanitary situation remains dominated by attacks of fall armyworms (FAW), particularly on corn.
A Plant Protection Unit (UPV) of the DPV, based in Missirah (Tambacounda), has been deployed to support producers. In total, 95 hectares have already been treated thanks to the provision of 60 liters of phytosanitary products (Sultan 480 EC).
However, agricultural authorities recommend increased vigilance and capacity building for producers to better control this formidable pest.
