Roumanie : Pape Faye et Cheikh Tidiane Gaye distingués
The historic city of Constanța was the scene of a vibrant tribute to Senegalese culture, with the honoring of two renowned poets and intellectuals, Pape Faye and Cheikh Tidiane Gaye, at an international symposium. These honors underscore Senegal's status as a beacon of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, thanks to the commitment of these two figures. "In an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world, the country has once again demonstrated how art and culture are powerful instruments for building peace," noted the organizer, highlighting their role as cultural ambassadors.
Leading the Senegalese delegation, Professor Cheikh Tidiane Gaye, president of the Léopold Sédar Senghor International Academy and member of the Tomitana and Universalis Poetarum academies, received the prestigious Grand Prix de la Constellation Mundus, accompanied by statues of Shakespeare and Mihai Eminescu, symbolizing a global literary dialogue. Pape Faye, president of the Senegalese Actors Association and member of the same academy, was named a full member of the Tomitana Academy, also receiving the Dramatic Art Prize and the Ovid Crown. The Archbishop of Constanța, who presented these distinctions, praised "the brilliant work of the two poets and their contribution to a more harmonious world." Gaye also initiated the planting of ten olive trees at the Cassian Monastery, a gesture of peace "engraved in the history of Romania."
The symposium celebrated the legacy of Senghor, whose philosophy of Negritude and intercultural dialogue remains alive. “His vision calls for a universal civilization where all peoples can share and value their differences,” it was emphasized, reaffirming Senegal’s centrality in cultural diplomacy. “His philosophy, which emphasizes mutual respect and cultural integration, is more alive than ever,” added one participant. This event, by honoring Faye and Gaye, not only celebrates Senegal’s past but projects its future as an influential cultural nation on the world stage.
