vision2050
The highlight of the mission to Dakar of a delegation from the Mouvement des entreprises de France International (Medef International) led by Philippe Labonne (President of the Medef Africa Committee), the Franco-Senegalese Business Forum opened its curtains on Wednesday, February 19. This allowed the employers of the two countries, linked by strengthened economic cooperation, to identify opportunities in order to initiate mutually beneficial partnership agreements.
"We are here to deepen our economic cooperation based on investment, innovation, the exchange of know-how and the desire to build a prosperous future for our two countries," said the French ambassador to Senegal, Christine Fages, initiator of the forum which aims to promote French investment in Senegal.
With more than 300 companies established in Senegal, France intends, through Medef International, to play its part in the implementation of Vision Senegal 2050 as outlined by the new authorities. "French companies established in Senegal are major development players. Today, more than 300 companies with French and Senegalese capital, representing more than 30,000 formal jobs occupied in the vast majority by Senegalese, are active in Senegal. Beyond the figures, they are involved in training talent, in the transmission of skills, technology transfer, and expertise," said the diplomat.
Christine Fages added: "Through the Senegal Vision 2050 plan, the new authorities have set themselves the course for inclusive, resilient and innovative growth. French companies want to take their place in this trajectory by partnering with Senegalese players."
“Participate in co-construction”
Sensing, in fact, the opportunities offered by Senegal, which is undergoing a major transformation with the exploitation of its oil and gas fields , and keen to support the new authorities, the Medef intends to become fully involved alongside the National Council of Employers of Senegal (CNP).
"Last year's elections brought great hope. The French companies that we represent clearly perceived the power of the impetus given by the Senegal 2050 vision," declared the head of the Medef delegation, who is "convinced that French companies can participate in this work of co-construction of this country."
For his part, Mamadou Racine Sy, the vice-president of the CNP, welcomes the interest that French investors have in a Senegal oriented towards economic sovereignty which does not mean, according to him, "withdrawal into oneself".
"We talk about economic sovereignty. But, of course, this economic sovereignty does not lead to a withdrawal into ourselves. On the contrary, it is, in reality, the terms of exchange that change in a win-win partnership," he reassures.
APIX promises an attractive business environment
For his part, the Director General of APIX, Bakary Séga Bathily, who took part in this forum, gave assurances to the two private sectors. According to him, "the State is implementing flagship reforms to structurally change the situation for a mutually beneficial investment" through the implementation of the Program for Improving the Competitiveness of Territories and the Economy (PACTE).
APIX, its director indicates, is also "engaged in the revision of the Investment Code for better harmonization." This code, which should be available in April, will make it possible to "group together all the provisions that were in different codes into a single one."
In the same vein, APIX promises to "strengthen its role in preventing conflicts between businesses and the Administration", but also to "remove all the factors blocking investment such as high energy costs, cumbersome administrative procedures, access to land and skills through the valorization of acquired skills".

GMS !
