The Democratic Union of Teachers of Senegal (UDEN) held a press conference this Friday to express its deep dissatisfaction with the administrative delays which, according to it, are hampering the management of the education and training sector.

At the heart of his concerns are the revision of the status of decision-making teachers and the publication of administrative acts. These are two issues deemed urgent but which have remained blocked for several years.

Persistent blockages

According to the UDEN, the decree revising the status of decision-making teachers, although already submitted to the Presidency, was returned to the General Secretariat of the Government under the pretext of corrections. At the same time, numerous reclassification applications have reportedly been pending for more than two years.

"This situation is intolerable and reflects a lack of consideration for issues essential to the stability of the education system," denounced the National Executive Office.

The union also points to the delays in publishing administrative documents. Despite the digitalization announced by the government, several files remain blocked, either at the payroll level or at the General Secretariat of the Government. These delays, warns the UDEN, risk causing serious disruptions as soon as the school year begins.

Clear demands to the government

Faced with this inertia, the UDEN demands the immediate signing of the decree revising the status of decision-makers and the immediate publication of the administrative acts of teachers.

While reaffirming its willingness to seek concerted solutions, the union insists on the need to treat these two issues "with the priority they deserve."

"The delaying tactics have gone on long enough," insisted the UDEN, calling on teachers to remain mobilized. The National Executive Board reaffirms its determination to defend the rights of its members "firmly and consistently."
