Ziguinchor Regional Hospital on the verge of a coma

Le centre hospitalier régional de Ziguinchor au bord du coma

The Ziguinchor Regional Hospital is in a critical situation, according to its new director. Dr. Gabriel Massène Senghor, who took office a little over a month ago, has provided an alarming assessment of the hospital's financial and real estate situation. He calls for urgent support from the authorities and the Ministry of Health to help it emerge from the abyss. According to Dr. Senghor, the Ziguinchor Regional Hospital lacks basic supplies and equipment, and the buildings are dilapidated. He was speaking at the launch of the hospital's new diabetes department. "Many departments operate in precarious conditions, sometimes with outdated equipment or simply without the tools necessary for modern medicine," he said. The operating room, maternity ward, and laboratory—all of these important services within the Ziguinchor Regional Hospital—require urgent rehabilitation to improve patient care, warns Dr. Senghor. On the financial front, the director points to a budget deficit. These problems are hampering the proper functioning of the regional hospital, which also receives patients from neighboring countries. Dr. Gabriel Massène Senghor is therefore calling for affirmative action for the facility he directs.
