Premier cas de Mpox : Pr Seydi donne les dernières nouvelles du patient zéro

The news is reassuring: "The patient's condition is improving faster than expected. He will be fully recovered in a few days, barring any last-minute complications. He no longer has a fever, and his skin lesions are healing."

In an interview published this Thursday in L'Observateur, Professor Moussa Seydi, head of the infectious and tropical diseases department at Fann Hospital, gave news of the first Mpox patient detected in Senegal.

The patient is a 28-year-old man. His case was revealed last Saturday. "He was hospitalized for a severe form of the disease with more than 100 vesiculo-pustular lesions (spots) and a secondary infection," the doctor said.

Although he carries genotype Ib, which causes the severe form of the disease, the patient can remain hopeful. Professor Seydi agrees: "Cure is the rule, regardless of the genotype, even if there is a risk of death and complications. With this genotype (Ib), the lethality rate usually varies between 3 and 6% and can theoretically reach 10%, but unless advised, with good management, the lethality rate is less than 1%."
