A three-day crackdown by security forces in Ziguinchor resulted in the arrest of several people for various offenses, including drug trafficking, theft, and criminal conspiracy, as well as the seizure of property. According to our colleagues at Groupe Médias du Sud, who reported the information, 58 people were arrested for these offenses, 81 motorcycles were immobilized, and 95 parts were seized.
This intense security operation, combining elements of the Urban Company (CU) and the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI), coordinated by the Research Brigade (BR), took place during the nights of June 18 to 22, 2025, our colleagues specify.
These operations, launched in the southern capital of the South, are part of a sustainable security strategy aimed at reducing crime, strengthening law enforcement presence, and enforcing traffic regulations. Local authorities welcome the collaboration between the various units involved.
Similar actions are planned for the coming weeks. As a reminder, these operations are in response to growing insecurity in the municipality of Ziguinchor, where numerous acts of banditry have been recorded in recent months.
