Rufisque : Sérigne Ndiaye (Promovilles) supervise l’avancement des travaux de modernisation du boulevard Maurice Gueye et du canal de l’Ouest
The National Coordinator of the Urban Modernization Program (PROMOVILLES), Sérigne Ndiaye, conducted a field visit on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in Rufisque to assess the progress of the development work on Boulevard Maurice Gueye and the closure of the Canal de l'Ouest. This initiative is part of a dynamic of modernizing urban infrastructure, aimed at improving sanitation, strengthening public lighting, and providing a more pleasant living environment for residents.
Sérigne Ndiaye highlighted the strategic importance of the Maurice Gueye Boulevard development project, a key focus of this project. "The work involves transforming this road into a dual carriageway over a 2.91 km stretch, with a planned extension of up to 5 km. In addition to widening the roadway, efficient street lighting will be installed to make nighttime travel safer," he explained.
In addition, a rainwater drainage network is being built to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. This system relies on the installation of 600 mm diameter pipes over a total length of 2.52 km, distributed on both sides of the boulevard. In addition, a wastewater drainage network, extending over 1.1 km, is being deployed to improve sanitation in this rapidly growing area.
Another major component of the project involves closing the Canal de l'Ouest over 600 meters. This measure aims to eliminate the dangers associated with an open canal while optimizing water flow. A pumping station, currently under construction and being equipped, will strengthen wastewater and stormwater management.
"Public lighting will also be improved with the installation of 329 streetlights along the road, ensuring optimal visibility for users. In addition, 11,564 m² of paving stones will be laid along the right side of the canal, combining aesthetics and durability. Relaxation areas equipped with public benches will also enhance the environment for the well-being of residents," added Sérigne Ndiaye.
With a total cost of 13,804,841,120 CFA francs, this ambitious project reflects PROMOVILLES' commitment to sustainable urban development. Sérigne Ndiaye expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work, while emphasizing that the deadlines were met. He reaffirmed that these achievements are part of a comprehensive vision aimed at transforming Rufisque into a modern and harmonious city for the benefit of its population.
