After weeks of often painful, if not heartbreaking, testimony, lawyers began their closing arguments Thursday in the sex trafficking trial of hip-hop mogul P. Diddy. Both the prosecution and defense indicated this week that their closing arguments could each last several hours before the jurors gathered in Manhattan federal court for the final stretch of the trial, which began in May. A key figure in hip-hop for the past three decades, Sean Combs, known as P. Diddy, who also made his fortune in fashion and alcohol, is on trial for sex trafficking and criminal enterprise. The 55-year-old is accused of forcing women, including his ex-girlfriend from 2007 to 2018, singer Cassie, to engage in sex marathons with male prostitutes. According to the prosecution, Diddy's employees were responsible for delivering drugs to the victims to force them to submit and keep them silent. The rapper has pleaded not guilty. His defense concedes episodes of violence, but claims the women willingly participated in sexual encounters with other men, and even testified out of jealousy or greed. Over the past seven weeks, jurors have heard from about 30 witnesses, including Cassie and a more recent former girlfriend of Diddy's who goes by the pseudonym Jane, who each claimed to have been forced to participate in these sex marathons, known as "freak-offs."
