Cameroun/Bafia : un homme tué, mutilé et vendu comme viande de brousse par son neveu

The town of Bafia is in shock after the discovery of a crime of rare violence involving the death of Dong à Gbaram, a family man, who was allegedly killed on the night of January 13, 2026. The main suspect, his nephew Ayouba Arouna, is accused not only of having committed the murder, but also of having consumed part of the body and then sold the remains as bushmeat.

The father was reportedly found dead after being tortured in a makeshift hut deep in the forest. Initial investigations point to his nephew as the prime suspect. According to local information, the nephew allegedly mutilated the victim's body and attempted to sell some of the body parts as bushmeat. The alarm was raised when a restaurant owner noticed suspicious details in the product being offered, thus stopping the scheme before it could spread further.

The sequence of events

The events date back to the night of January 11, 2025. According to initial information gathered by authorities, Dong à Gbaram was allegedly lured from his home before disappearing. His prolonged absence quickly alarmed his family and neighbors. On the morning of January 13, the town of Bafia was in turmoil when disturbing evidence was discovered in the Kôdo-Donnenkeng forest area. Initial investigations revealed the extent of the tragedy and focused suspicion on a close relative of the victim. The suspect then fled, armed, leaving behind a shocked community.

Details revealed by the investigation indicate disturbing premeditation. The suspect allegedly used a blade, forcibly purchased from a local shopkeeper, to mutilate the victim's genitals and intestines. An attempt to sell the remains to a villager alerted neighbors and authorities. When villagers intervened, the suspect fled into the bush, injuring two village police officers. Authorities quickly seized evidence at the crime scene, including traces of blood and the bag containing Mr. Dong's remains.

Hunt, arrest, and relief for the population

For nearly ten days, Ayouba became the most wanted man in Bafia. Fear gripped the community, especially since the suspect had reportedly made threats before his disappearance. As a precaution, the population was urged to be vigilant, particularly regarding the consumption of meat of unknown origin. Thanks to a discreet investigation conducted by the Bafia gendarmerie brigade, supported by the collaboration of local youth, the suspect was finally located in his hideout in the village of Kôdo, preparing the remains of the deceased. On January 22, 2026, law enforcement arrested him without major incident, despite an attempt to resist.

Taken to the Bafia gendarmerie brigade (Brigade Terre), Ayouba is currently in custody. The victim's remains have been transferred to the morgue at the Bafia district hospital. The suspect is expected to be brought before the public prosecutor in the coming days to answer for the charges against him. In a town still reeling from the horror, the suspect's arrest was met with profound relief. Justice is now expected to shed full light on this tragedy that has deeply shaken Bafia.
