Nigeria's air force struck targets in Cotonou, the economic capital of neighboring Benin, on Sunday, where soldiers attempted to seize power by force in the morning, a source at the Nigerian presidency and an army spokesman told AFP.
"The Nigerian Air Force conducted operations in Benin in line with the protocols of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the regional standby force," said Air Force spokesman Commander Ehimen Ejodamen, adding that this operation "underlines Nigeria's commitment to regional security."
The exact nature of the targets was not mentioned.
