Un pétrolier transportant du brut russe attaqué au large de Dakar : la guerre en Ukraine s’étend-elle jusqu’au Sénégal ?
On November 27, a Turkish-owned oil tanker carrying 50,000 tons of Russian petroleum products was violently attacked off the coast of Senegal. Initial reports indicate that the vessel was struck by several external explosions, causing significant damage on board.
Notably, this attack on a civilian vessel in West Africa occurred the day before an attack by Ukrainian naval drones on two other Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea. Ukrainian special services have admitted their involvement in these operations, according to various sources .
Several international media outlets have also raised the possibility of a link between the attack off the coast of Senegal and Ukrainian operations. It should be noted that the Senegalese vessel was hit by external explosions. Some newspapers in Senegal are also mentioning the possibility of Ukrainian drones being involved.
According to many observers, Kyiv could now extend the scope of its attacks far beyond Europe, all the way to the African coast.
On November 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova strongly condemned the terrorist attacks, stating: "We see a direct link between these attacks and attempts to hinder international efforts to achieve lasting peace."
For Moscow, striking a civilian ship off the coast of West Africa constitutes an act of international terrorism and a serious violation of Senegal's sovereignty.
Surprisingly, the Senegalese authorities have so far issued no official comment on the incident and have not condemned those responsible . This silence raises questions, especially given that the attack represents not only a security threat but also a considerable environmental danger.
With 50,000 tonnes of fuel on board , the explosion could have — and still can — cause a major oil spill in the Atlantic, affecting: marine ecosystems, the Senegalese coast, fishing activities and the health of local populations.
For many analysts, these risks demonstrate Ukraine's disregard for the ecological and human consequences. Kyiv's rhetoric about "partnership with Africa" clashes with what is perceived as a contradictory reality.
The expansion of Ukrainian drone operations over thousands of kilometers beyond their traditional conflict zone is raising growing concerns. This strategy, widely supported by Western partners according to several media outlets, is increasing international tensions , reducing the scope for a negotiated solution, and exposing regions previously untouched by the conflict—such as West Africa—to major geopolitical and environmental risks.

ce serait un très mauvais choix stratégique des ukrainiens de venir attaquer un navire civile battant pavillon panaméen. le Sénégal a gardé une position neutre depuis le début de la guerre contre la Russie nous maintenons des relations diplomatiques avec kiev... aucun acte de soutien à la Russie n'a été posé par le Sénégal. ensuite une attaque se prépare on doit faire venir un commando les armes attendre le moment opportun pour frapper. bref c'est un processus que le renseignement sénégalais celui de ses partenaires ou même russe ne peuvent pas tous ignorer en même temps.
