Tribunal de Mbour : un agent pénitentiaire et ex secrétaire du Procureur volait l'argent des scellés et des cautions !
Prosecuted for embezzlement to the detriment of private individuals in the exercise of his duties, the prison officer and former secretary to the prosecutor was sentenced to two years, one of which is a mandatory minimum sentence.
N. Ndao had helped himself lavishly to the jurisdiction's funds between 2024 and early 2026.
As a reminder, the defendant had privileged access to the registration office and the prosecutor's office secretariat. He took advantage of this to embezzle funds drawn from bail paid by defendants to obtain provisional release, from cash contained in the sealed evidence belonging to detainees — including 500,000 FCFA stolen from a single case — as well as from sums deposited to avoid imprisonment for debt.
The scandal broke in January 2026. A woman, P. Guèye, discovered that a relative remained imprisoned despite having paid over 3 million CFA francs for his release. The money having "vanished" from the official records, she alerted the court president. The investigation, entrusted to the Saly Research Brigade, ultimately revealed a total loss of 11.5 million CFA francs.
Tried last Tuesday, N. Ndao admitted to all the charges, citing "life difficulties" he encountered in 2024 and stating that he intended to repay the debt before being exposed. The prosecutor, denouncing a betrayal of trust placed in a public official, requested a two-year prison sentence.
The prison officer ultimately received a two-year sentence, with one year to be served in prison.
