Maitre Massokhna Kane : «La Commission de régulation des loyers est impuissante »
The president of SOS Consommateurs, Maitre Massokhna Kane, denounced the high cost of rents, criticizing the measures put in place by the Senegalese Rent Regulation Commission.
Invited this Sunday, October 19, 2025, to the program "Le Point" on RTS, the lawyer indicated that rents are expensive and that the priority is to make them fair.
Mr. Kane recalled the creation of the Rent Regulation Commission. But, according to him, "this commission is not only ineffective, but it is powerless," because, he said, it lacks the legal instruments necessary to fulfill its regulatory mission.
He also mentioned the need to evaluate the work of this commission. "The budgets spent on the operation of this commission are wasted, since the structure cannot function," he stressed.
According to him, the regulatory mechanisms of this commission should have been strengthened rather than creating a new structure. "The mechanisms put in place by the commission are not producing the expected results," he concluded.
