Liverpool: les explications d’Arne Slot sur le manque d’efficacité de Salah
Liverpool's start to the season has been a turbulent one, and Mohamed Salah's unusually quiet performance has drawn attention. Less decisive in front of goal, the Egyptian striker is going through a period of ineffectiveness that is rare for a player who built his reputation on consistency and precision. Asked at a press conference about this decline, Reds manager Arne Slot was keen to defend his player.
"I don't know if it's due to a lack of precision or not. It's very difficult for me to say why. I could put forward a few reasons, but I'm not sure that's the cause," he says.
The Dutch coach, who arrived last summer to succeed Jürgen Klopp, refuses to point the finger at his star striker. According to him, this type of slump is part of football, even for the best. "Players miss chances, and Mohamed Salah is also a human being. We're not used to seeing him miss, especially not in consecutive matches. But it can happen," he explains.
Salah, Liverpool's frequent savior in recent seasons, appears to be lacking in success in front of goal. Slot, however, tried to put the situation into perspective, suggesting that the context of the matches could also play a role. "I could imagine that it's easier to convert a chance when you're 3-1 up than when you're 1-0 down," he said. "But maybe that's not the case for him at all."
Despite this lackluster start, the coach remains confident. He points out that the Egyptian has always been able to bounce back. "The main thing is that he has always scored goals for our club. The last thing I'm worried about is him starting to score again, because that's what he's done his whole life. And that's what I expect from him in the weeks and months to come," he concludes.
