Déthié Fall : Une « ceinture noire » en management de projets complexes aux commandes des Infrastructures
Starting this Monday, a new chapter in his life begins. Appointed Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall will enter a whole new chapter in his political career. A proven polytechnician and early on steeped in the rigor of military training at the National School for Active Officers (Reserve Officer), he will have the difficult task of carrying out the current regime's infrastructure program.
Born in 1975, Déthié Fall studied humanities here in Senegal. Originally from Saint Louis, he completed his primary education at the Léona school. He was then sent to the André Peytavin technical high school, where he earned his Baccalaureate in Economics in 1995. This qualification opened the doors to Gaston Berger University in 1996, where the young Déthié Fall enrolled in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. His university studies were cut short by his admission to the École Polytechnique entrance exam. At the end of his training, he graduated from this prestigious institution with an engineering degree.
Black belt in complex and strategic project management
But Déthié Fall will not be satisfied with this new diploma, as he will continue to hone his skills through specialized training. “I have completed several other training courses, such as a Master in Business Administration (MBA), and another in Black Belt Lean 6 Sigma, or a black belt in complex and strategic project management,” he revealed in March 2024, on the eve of the presidential election.
But it is much more the politician Déthié Fall that the Senegalese know. Indeed, from 2004 to 2020, he worked alongside Idrissa Seck in Rewmi. There, Déthié Fall held several positions, including that of vice president. But in 2020, when the former president of the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CESE) decided to join the presidential movement, Déthié Fall left him. He affirmed his roots in the opposition and even held the position of national representative of the Yewwi Askan Wi coalition. In 2024, he will attempt a presidential candidacy. But this will remain anecdotal.
Today, leader of the Republican Party for Progress (PRP), Déthié Fall has distinguished himself above all by his closeness to Ousmane Sonko. Invested on the “Samm sa kaddu” lists during the 2024 legislative elections, he did not hesitate to leave the coalition to campaign alongside Ousmane Sonko, head of the Pastef coalition list. He will even resign his position as a member of parliament at the end of the electoral contest to work with the Prime Minister.
“Sonko and I, it’s just a continuity…”
"It's just a continuity. We've been in the opposition like that. Every time you saw Ousmane Sonko, you saw me at his side. When he was gassed, I was gassed too. When he was arrested, I was there. When it came to confronting the government, I was there. We barricaded his house, we barricaded my headquarters. So we've always been together. It's a continuity that's happening," he said on April 27 on national television.
That day, as if presciently, the polytechnician had shown himself particularly attracted, to our colleagues, by the infrastructure program of the new government, the aim of which is to “ensure that Senegal is connected to the rest of the territory”.
“I recently heard the announcement of the resumption of the Dakar-Bamako railway project. This project includes a dry port, which would make it much more competitive at the sub-regional level. It is important to ensure that projects like this materialize, alongside the current power holders, with everything they have outlined in the national transformation agenda,” he said.
Today, he is tasked with bringing the current government's infrastructure program to life. A gigantic task.
