Aid and relief funds for the repatriation of the bodies of Senegalese citizens who died abroad will be reduced, Foreign Affairs Minister Yacine Fall revealed during a plenary session of the National Assembly. Questioned by MP Mamadou Mory Diaw during the review of the ratification of an agreement between Senegal and Morocco on the transfer of convicted prisoners and assistance to detainees, she cited the country's budgetary constraints.

"The repatriation of bodies absorbs a large portion of our budget, but these funds will see a significant decrease due to the current financial situation," said Yacine Fall. According to her, "Senegal is going through an economic crisis that affects all sectors. Despite our ambitions and intentions, we will do what is necessary within the limits of available resources." She called on MPs to work towards increasing these funds during the budget vote, in order to better support families.

Regarding Senegalese citizens who die abroad in circumstances involving the justice system, the minister assured that the state is often informed. "In these cases, we support the families in repatriating the bodies and follow up the cases rigorously," she added, emphasizing the authorities' commitment despite financial difficulties.
