67e anniversaire de l’indépendance : Alpha Condé appelle les Guinéens à dire « Non à la junte » et « Oui à l’ordre constitutionnel civil »

On the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Guinea's independence, celebrated on October 2, 2025, former President Alpha Condé delivered a landmark political statement. Overthrown on September 5, 2021, by a military coup, he provided an alarming assessment of the situation under the CNRD and issued a solemn call for national mobilization against the ruling junta. In his message, Alpha Condé vigorously denounced what he called the "burial of democracy" and the confiscation of institutions by the transitional authorities. "For four years now, the situation in our country has been beyond dramatic. Democracy has been buried, institutions confiscated. Human rights are violated with arrests, arbitrary detentions, brutal kidnappings, and enforced disappearances," he stressed.

The former president also spoke of a judicial system under orders, widespread fear, and stifling censorship, which have silenced any dissenting voices. "Corruption and illicit enrichment, to the detriment of citizens, have reached a scale beyond all comprehension. Poverty and unemployment have worsened, and people live in despair," added Professor Condé.

A “disoriented” economy and a “diplomatically isolated” country

On the economic and social front, Alpha Condé believes that Guinea has lost its development momentum since his overthrow. "No major new projects have seen the light of day. The major projects we had launched have been disoriented and disjointed to serve mafia interests, with no regard for the general interest. No structural investment has been undertaken. Guinea is diplomatically isolated, deprived of opportunities and credibility," he declared. Instead of the reconstruction promised by the military, he deplores a "general desolation and a climate of fear."

“Guinea belongs to its people”

The former leader called on his compatriots to regain national unity and reject ethnic or partisan divisions. "Guinea belongs to no one. It belongs to its people. These people have the inalienable right to choose their leaders, protect their freedoms, and build their prosperity," he reiterated.

Addressing the victims, the exiles, and all affected citizens, he promised a return to national dignity. "God willing, with the mobilization of all, we will free our country from the hands of this group of criminals to restore to the people all their dignity, freedom, and full sovereignty," he declared.

“Say No to the junta, Yes to democracy”

In conclusion, Alpha Condé drew a historical parallel with the 1958 independence struggle, calling for a new resistance. "In 1958, our elders knew how to say No to domination. Today, we must say No to this barbaric junta, No to kidnappings and Yes to democracy, to the restoration of civil constitutional order, to reconciliation and national unity. Guinea has suffered, but it is not defeated," he declared.
