Addis-Abeba 2025 : l’Afrique réclame une révolution du financement climatique
At the second African Climate Summit, held from September 8 to 10, 2025, in Addis Ababa, the continent's leaders and stakeholders made adaptation and resilience their priorities. But beyond the rhetoric, the central issue remains resources, an essential condition for transforming climate ambitions into tangible realities.
While green infrastructure, renewable energy, and resilience projects are multiplying, their implementation is hampered by a chronic lack of funding. Available flows remain below needs, and existing mechanisms are unable to sustainably secure the necessary investments. This situation is slowing the implementation of initiatives that are vital for protecting populations and supporting green growth.
The summit thus highlighted the paradox of a continent rich in opportunities but limited by restricted access to global financial resources. Behind the optimistic rhetoric about Africa's potential, reality underscores the urgent need to reform the international financial architecture to make it more inclusive and better adapted to the realities of countries in the Global South.
By calling for a collective mobilization of states, donors, and private actors, Addis Ababa 2025 marks a turning point. The summit not only affirms Africa's climate ambitions, it also demands the means to achieve them, placing the issue of financing at the heart of global climate governance.
