Boxe: Joshua serait resté inconscient pendant 10 minutes après son accident de la route au Nigeria
British boxer Anthony Joshua, who was involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria on Monday that killed two of his relatives, was reportedly unconscious in the vehicle for 10 minutes, according to several British media outlets. He has also received support from the Nigerian president.
Hours pass and new elements are added to try to decipher what happened on Monday in Nigeria during a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two men who were part of Anthony Joshua's staff, namely Kevin Latz Ayodele, the boxer's personal sports coach, and Sina Ghami, also a physical trainer and present in the "AJ" team during the recent fight against Jake Paul.
Joshua was unconscious for 10 minutes after the fatal accident in Nigeria.
Joshua, who was in the vehicle before it collided with a truck on the side of the main road linking Lagos to Ibadan, suffered "no serious injuries," according to local authorities, before being taken to the hospital, where he remains under observation. However, the Daily Mail and the BBC have provided further details. The boxer reportedly remained unconscious for 10 minutes after the accident before being helped to regain consciousness by witnesses.
Several videos quickly circulated on social media, showing the former world heavyweight champion shirtless in the back of the car, in a state of shock, before he finally raised his thumb to signify that he was still conscious.
The Nigerian president spoke with Joshua
A few hours after the tragedy, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself took to social media to offer his support to the families of the deceased and to Anthony Joshua. "I spoke to AJ to personally express my condolences on the passing of his two close associates. I wished him a speedy recovery and prayed with him. I also spoke with his mother and prayed for her. She was very touched by the call. Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was at the hospital with them, assured me that he would do everything possible to ensure AJ receives the best possible care."
After his victorious fight against Jake Paul on December 19, the 36-year-old boxer decided to take a break in Nigeria, his mother's country of origin where he spent part of his childhood.
Anthony Joshua shared an Instagram story a few hours before the accident, in which he was playing table tennis with Kevin "Latz" Ayodele, one of the two victims. According to a close friend contacted by the BBC, the Briton was on his way to his family home.
