Conakry : Un bébé de deux semaines volé à la veille de son baptême

A shocking incident has shaken the Kissosso neighborhood in the commune of Matoto (Conakry). On the eve of her child's baptism, a young mother woke up to a tragedy: her two-week-old baby had been kidnapped in circumstances that are still unclear. According to information gathered on the spot, the incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, October 4, 2025, while the family was busy making final preparations for the religious ceremony scheduled for the following day.

An unknown woman, described as "polite and well-dressed," allegedly gained the mother's trust before disappearing with the infant. "She came to talk to me calmly and even helped me rock the baby. A few moments later, she asked my permission to hold him while I put something away. That's how she left, and I haven't seen her since," the mother said, in tears.

Visibly exhausted and distraught, the young woman struggled to contain her sobs. “I miss my child… my breasts are full, and I’m cold,” she confided, her voice trembling, surrounded by relatives trying to comfort her. Emotions ran high throughout the neighborhood. Many residents gathered in front of the family compound to express their sympathy and demand that the authorities quickly find the baby. Security forces have opened an investigation. A Matoto police patrol was dispatched to the scene, and a wanted notice has reportedly been issued.

According to a police source, surveillance cameras from a nearby business could help identify the kidnapper. This latest abduction reignites the debate on the safety of newborns in working-class neighborhoods of Conakry, where several similar cases have been reported in recent years. In the meantime, the mother and her family live in fear and hope of seeing their baby safe and sound.
