Coup d'État déjoué au Bénin : 30 militaires et un civil jetés en prison

It's an open secret. Benin's president, Patrice Talon, escaped a coup d'état on Sunday, December 7, 2025. More than a week after the events, the special prosecutor of the Court for the Repression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET) questioned the first suspects.

This is a group of 30 military personnel and one civilian arrested in connection with this foiled coup.

Charged with "treason", "murder" and "attack on state security"

Following their hearing, the public prosecutor issued a warrant for their arrest. They are charged with "treason," "murder," and "attacking state security." Handcuffed in pairs, the defendants boarded three vehicles yesterday morning, Tuesday, December 16, bound for the prison facilities where they will be held pending further legal proceedings.
