Criminalité économique : Le gouvernement du Burkina Faso annonce le rétablissement de la peine de mort
The Burkinabe government adopted a significant strengthening of the legal framework against economic crimes during the Council of Ministers meeting on December 4, 2025. From now on, perpetrators of embezzlement, corruption, or related offenses face sentences of up to life imprisonment when the amounts involved reach or exceed 5 billion CFA francs.
The Council also announced the reinstatement of the death penalty, as well as a significant increase in fines applicable to economic crime cases. These measures aim to intensify the fight against financial impunity, protect public resources, and deter fraudulent practices that affect governance.
The government states that this tightening of sanctions is part of a desire to restore the integrity of public management and to meet citizens' expectations in terms of justice and transparency.
