Des « armes de guerre » chez des civils en Côte d'Ivoire : Le procureur de la République lance un appel
In Côte d'Ivoire, security forces dispersed an unauthorized opposition march on October 11. Several demonstrators were arrested. In a statement released yesterday, Tuesday, October 28, the public prosecutor at the Abidjan court, Braman Oumar, reported "violence perpetrated during these armed and unarmed gatherings." Investigations and arrests carried out as part of the criminal proceedings initiated following these events have reportedly revealed that "certain individuals, as well as people claiming to be members of the PPA-CI security detail, were carrying weapons of war."
The illegal possession of weapons of war constitutes an offense
The lawyer, who also serves as director of the anti-terrorism session at the Abidjan Court of First Instance, is urging all those possessing weapons without administrative authorization to surrender their firearms to the police or gendarmerie, under penalty of prosecution. He reminds them that the illegal possession of weapons of war constitutes an offense under the law governing violations of regulations concerning weapons, ammunition, and explosive substances.
Those convicted of such an offense face a sentence of 5 to 10 years' imprisonment. The prosecutor assures those who lay down their arms that they may "benefit from mitigating circumstances."
