Gambian President Adama Barrow has officially declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a national holiday to celebrate Mawlid Al-Nabi, marking the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.
An official presidential decision
In a statement issued by the State House of The Gambia, the President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow, announced his decision to declare Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday throughout the country in observance of Mawlid Al-Nabi.
A message of brotherhood and celebration
The Office of the President accompanied this announcement with a congratulatory message, wishing Gambians and friends of Gambia "a happy and blessed celebration" of Mawlid Al-Nabi.
Mawlid Al-Nabi, celebrating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, is one of the most important dates in the Islamic calendar and brings the faithful together in prayer, meditation and community festivities.
This measure allows Gambian citizens to celebrate this major religious event with dignity while strengthening social and spiritual ties within the country's Muslim community.
