It's safe to say that Gambian babies born on New Year's Day are privileged. They received gifts of cash and goods from the First Lady, Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow. According to "The Standard," which reported the story, these gifts amount to more than one million dalasis (7,702,488.58 CFA francs).
The beneficiaries, divided into three categories (first, second, and third child), received 25,000, 20,000, and 15,000 dalasis respectively, in addition to a basket of new clothes and other baby items. The operation was carried out in most major hospitals and health centers in urban and rural areas.
