Guinée : Deux célèbres influenceuses condamnées et bannies de Facebook !

The highly anticipated trial of artist Yama Séga and blogger Maya Kaba, aka "Maya La Solution", took place this Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Court of First Instance (TPI) of Mafanco, in a packed courtroom.

Brought before the court in the morning, the two defendants were tried under the summary procedure for flagrant offenses after a brief appearance before the prosecutor. In court, they both admitted to the charges against them, including insults, defamation, and statements that violated human dignity via social media.

Confessions and regrets

First to appear in court, Yama Séga admitted to acting in anger amid tensions with her former friend. She apologized to the authorities, her family, and the Guinean people, specifically mentioning the impact of the affair on her child and loved ones. Following her, Maya Kaba also admitted to making false statements intended to hurt her friend. She explained that the conflict stemmed from a misunderstanding on social media before escalating into a public confrontation. Both women expressed remorse and pleaded for leniency from the court.

A friendship broken by social media

According to the discussions, the case originated with heated exchanges during Facebook Live sessions, where each accused the other without initially naming her. The situation quickly escalated, exposing their dispute to thousands of internet users. The case highlights the dangers associated with social media use, particularly regarding defamation and invasion of privacy.

Verdict: suspended sentence, fine and ban

Following the prosecution's arguments, Judge Souleymane Traoré found the two defendants guilty. The court sentenced them to two years' imprisonment, suspended, a joint fine of 40 million Guinean francs (GNF), and a two-year ban on posting on social media.

This conviction means they will not be immediately imprisoned, but they remain under the threat of imprisonment should they reoffend. Through this decision, the Guinean justice system sends a clear message about the need to regulate the use of social media and to preserve public order and the dignity of individuals.
