A shocking tragedy occurred on the night of Sunday, September 28 to Monday, September 29, 2025, in Taouyah, in the commune of Ratoma. Fatoumata Diaraye Diallo, a young woman in her twenties, married for a year to her cousin, committed suicide, leaving behind a baby and a family in a state of shock.
An incomprehensible gesture
According to testimonies gathered at the scene, the deceased had just given birth a few days earlier. Her older sister, Hadiatou Diallo, recounts with emotion: "I was in the neighboring house when they came to tell me the news around 5 a.m. When I arrived, I couldn't get in, but I saw blood everywhere. They told me she had committed suicide with a knife. All I know is that she had given birth last Friday and suffered from hypertension, but she had never shown any mental problems."
A tragedy before the eyes of the family
The victim's older brother, Mamadou Mouctar Diallo, confirms the indescribable pain the family is going through: "She had spent the night with her aunt. Around 5 a.m., she slipped out discreetly, leaving the child sleeping with her aunt. She committed the act in the living room. The blood even spread onto two little girls who were sleeping on the sofa. They alerted our aunt, who found her writhing in pain." He insists: "She had no mental health history. This Monday, she was even supposed to go for a consultation at the John Paul II Hospital with our older brother. She was only suffering from tension and pain related to childbirth."
An investigation opened
For the time being, there are no clear leads to explain this tragic act. The deceased's aunt and the two girls present at the time of the tragedy were questioned by the Ratoma central police station. Fatoumata Diaraye Diallo's body was transferred to the morgue for the purposes of the investigation. This tragedy raises many questions about postpartum health, which is often neglected, and highlights the urgent need for better medical and psychological support for young mothers in Guinea.
