« Je ne le fais pas exprès, c'est ... » : un père de famille face au juge
S. Cissé, a 35-year-old father, appeared before the Dakar District Court on charges of theft and attempted theft. He is accused of stealing Rose Diémé's cell phone and attempting to break into the home of her neighbor, Awa Diallo, reports Les Échos, which attended the hearing.
In court, the newspaper points out, he invoked a mystical influence to explain his actions: "I don't do it on purpose, it's mystical. I even steal a bottle of water if I enter a house," he declared through tears.
He also sought to move the court by claiming to be an orphan and the victim of a spell:
"I've been cursed. I didn't do it on purpose. I ask for forgiveness. My loved ones are angry with me. I have no one. I'm an orphan of both father and mother," he begged.
Faced with these statements, the judge curtly replied: "Stop what you are doing, it's theater."
The prosecutor requested a three-month prison sentence. The verdict is expected the following Friday, Les Echos reports.
