Inauguration day for Mamadi Doumbouya: Conakry vibrates to the rhythm of the presidential ceremony

Jour d’investiture pour Mamadi Doumbouya : Conakry vibre au rythme de la cérémonie présidentielle

CONAKRY, January 17, 2026 — This Saturday marks a historic day for Guinea. President Mamadi Doumbouya will be officially sworn in as head of state, following his victory in the first round of the presidential election on December 28, with 86.72% of the votes cast.

A capital city in turmoil

The solemn ceremony took place at the General Lansana Conté stadium in Nongo, Conakry, in the presence of numerous foreign delegations, institutional representatives and a large public turnout.

From the early hours of the morning, thousands of citizens stormed the stands to witness this major event, a symbol of political renewal and national unity.

A strong African and international representation

Several African heads of state traveled to Conakry to show their support for the new Guinean president. Among them were:

Mohamed Ould El-Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania;

. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of Gabon;

Adama Barrow, President of The Gambia;

Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda.

The Kingdom of Morocco is represented by Rachid Talbi El Alami, President of the House of Representatives.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, for his part, dispatched Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, as a special envoy.

Togo is represented by Professor Komi Sélom Klassou, President of the National Assembly, while France has mandated Eléonore Caroit, Minister Delegate for Francophonie, International Partnerships and French Nationals Abroad.

A new political era for Guinea

This inauguration marks the official start of President Mamadi Doumbouya's term and opens a new chapter for Guinea, focused on stability, development and the strengthening of republican institutions.

Conakry, decked out in national colours, vibrates to the rhythm of the ceremony, in an atmosphere mixing pride, fervor and hope for a better future for the Guinean people.
