KOLDA : Quelques faits marquants de la justice en 2025
In 2025, teacher Bounda Baldé was sentenced to one year in prison by the High Court for impersonating a public official and defrauding the public. He had used his cousin's national identity card to obtain a teaching position in the civil service and had been receiving his salary for five years.
Also, a woman was sentenced to five years in prison for infanticide. She had killed her baby at birth and was arrested in Saré Coly Salé by the Vélingara gendarmerie brigade.
As part of the fight against counterfeit currency, officers from the central police station arrested three people on Wednesday, July 2nd, in possession of 20 million CFA francs in counterfeit banknotes. The incident occurred in the Médina Chérif neighborhood of Kolda. On July 3rd, they were brought before the prosecutor and subsequently remanded in custody on charges of criminal conspiracy, attempted counterfeiting, and falsification of legal tender.
On January 8, the High Court also sentenced five individuals to two years in prison and ordered them to pay a fine of 25 million CFA francs. They were arrested by the Kolda customs subdivision in possession of more than 5 billion CFA francs in counterfeit currency.
Another legal development has garnered attention in the religious city of Medina Gounass, where intercommunal clashes erupted on June 17 and 18. After seven months in the Kolda prison, 13 of the 180 people arrested in connection with the case were released on the morning of Tuesday, February 4, and ordered to wear electronic bracelets in an effort to restore calm.
These clashes in Medina Gounass resulted in one death and 80 injuries, including five from gunshot wounds.
