L'Union africaine exprime son inquiétude face à la dégradation de la situation sécuritaire au Soudan du Sud
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, said he was deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation in South Sudan, particularly in Jonglei State, marked by a resurgence of violence and population displacements.
He condemned any rhetoric or action that could fuel further violence, recalling that such acts contravene the Revitalized Agreement for the Settlement of the Conflict (R-ARCSS). The President stressed the primary responsibility of the parties to the conflict to protect civilians, particularly women and children.
In the face of persistent ceasefire violations, he called on South Sudanese actors to exercise restraint, immediately de-escalate tensions and fully respect their commitments, particularly regarding ceasefires, power-sharing and inclusive governance.
The African Union has finally reaffirmed its support for the people and government of South Sudan, in coordination with IGAD, the UN and international partners, in support of lasting peace, stability and national reconciliation.
