In Mali, the Attorney General at the Bamako Court of Appeal announced yesterday, Tuesday, December 16, the opening of an investigation targeting Lieutenant Colonel Yann Christian Bernard Vezilier. This French officer, arrested last August, is accused of "serious offenses." He is alleged to have engaged in "unorthodox" behavior, characterized by acts aimed at undermining the security of the Malian state, destabilizing the institutions of the Republic, and sowing terror among the population.
Support for terrorist organizations
The case has been handed over to the specialized judicial unit for combating terrorism and transnational organized crime for in-depth examination.
The Attorney General asserts that the French officer established contacts with his civilian and military accomplices, with the aim of supporting terrorist enterprises in the country.
As a reminder, Lieutenant-Colonel Yann Christian Bernard Vezilier was arrested last August. He was among several suspects involved in an "attempt to destabilize the institutions of the Republic."
According to Malian authorities, he was acting on behalf of his country's intelligence services.
