Niger : Un juge radié du corps de la magistrature à cause d’une affaire de femme

In Niger, the Ministry of Justice announced in a press release published on Friday, August 22, the removal from the judiciary of the deputy public prosecutor at the Diffa High Court.

According to the Niger Press Agency, this civil servant is accused of several attacks on body image.

The events that led to his dismissal occurred "on the night of August 19-20, 2025." It was an "altercation between him and a sergeant of the National Guard in a bar in Diffa."

A fight over a woman

After this argument, the judge "tried to run over his opponent of the day with his vehicle," which constitutes attempted murder.

"The prompt intervention of a police patrol enabled the victim to be evacuated to the Diffa regional hospital at around 00:03," said the press release from the Ministry of Justice.

He also points out that this altercation started over a woman's issue between the two protagonists, which led to a fight.

Informed of the situation, the Attorney General at the Zinder Court of Appeal instructed the Public Prosecutor at the Diffa High Court to conduct an investigation into the "facts of attempted murder, assault and battery and public drunkenness and to take all appropriate measures to preserve public order seriously disturbed by a law enforcement officer."

A repeat offender

In the same press release, the Ministry of Justice reiterated that this is not the first time the accused has committed an offense. He had already violated a curfew in Diffa and insulted a colleague.

These unpleasant remarks were relayed by social media, which led to a complaint being filed with the State Court. For the Minister of Justice, this magistrate, "whose behavior has once again tarnished the image of justice, is not deemed worthy by the highest authorities in the country to continue to perform the function of judging. This is why they have decided to impose the sanction of removal from the judiciary."
