« Nous l’avons eu au téléphone » : Les confidences de Patrice Talon sur le cerveau du putsch manqué Pascal Tigri
In Benin, Lieutenant-Colonel Pascal Tigri, considered the mastermind of the failed coup attempt of Sunday, December 7, remains at large. He is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the Beninese justice system. While speaking to the national and international press yesterday, Thursday, in Cotonou, Beninese President Patrice Talon called for the cooperation of neighboring countries in the arrest of this former commander of the National Guard's special forces.
"He told him: 'Boy, what you're doing is madness, surrender, lay down your arms.'"
He also told reporters that the head of the Republican Guard had contacted the mutineers' leader by telephone on Sunday, December 7th. The purpose of the call was to convince him to surrender.
“At one point, we had Tigri on the phone. The head of the Republican Guard (Colonel Dieudonné Djiman Tévoèdjrè) spoke to him on the phone. He told him: ‘Boy, what you are doing is madness, surrender, lay down your arms.’ He said: ‘Ah no, you must not underestimate my capacity to cause harm,’” says Patrice Talon.
The soldier then reportedly asked that loyalist forces not bomb the Togbin base where he and his men had taken refuge. For the Beninese leader, this was already an admission of weakness.
