Putsch manqué au Bénin : Talon distribue des étoiles à plusieurs hauts gradés
In Benin, several high-ranking military officials were promoted to higher ranks during the Council of Ministers meeting this Friday, December 26. These include Air Force General Bertin Bada, Major General Fructueux Ahodégnon Gbaguidi, Major General Abou Issa, Colonel-Major Djimon Dieudonné Tévoèdjrè, and Colonel Faizou Gomina.
He lost his wife during the attack on his residence
The first, Bertin Bada, is the head of the military cabinet of the President of the Republic. He has been promoted to the rank of Air Force General, effective January 1, 2026. He tragically lost his wife during the mutineers' attack on his home on the night of Saturday, December 6, to Sunday, December 7. His comrade-in-arms, Fructueux Gbaguidi, the current Chief of Staff of the Beninese Armed Forces, has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. He was on assignment in France at the time of the events, which did not prevent him from coordinating operations from there.
The two high-ranking officers kidnapped by the mutineers were also promoted.
Major General Abou Issa, kidnapped by mutineers on the night of Saturday, December 7th, is the Chief of Staff of the Army. He has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. Colonel Faizou Gomina, also abducted during the events of December 7th, has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. He is the head of the National Guard.
The head of the Republican Guard becomes a brigadier general
The other colonel promoted by Mr. Talon is the head of the Republican Guard, Djimon Dieudonné Tévoèdjrè. He will become a brigadier general on January 1, 2026. As a reminder, this high-ranking officer led the response against the mutineers who attempted to seize the head of state at his residence.
In addition to these high-ranking officers, a police controller was also promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police, 2nd Class, effective January 15, 2025. This is Brice Kocou Allowanou. His role in the events of December 7th is unknown.
