Question déplacée posée à Édouard Mendy : La journaliste de BeIN, Vanessa Le Moigne, présente ses excuses
Senegal won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after an epic match against Morocco. At the final whistle, the official broadcaster of the competition in France, BeIN Sports, had the honor of interviewing Senegalese goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, who distinguished himself during the game, notably saving Brahim Diaz's penalty in the final seconds of regulation time.
Upon arriving on the BeIN set, Édouard Mendy was quickly confronted with a question deemed inappropriate by several viewers.
Indeed, journalist Vanessa Le Moigne asked the Senegalese player: "I hesitate to congratulate you. Did you arrange the penalty with Brahim Diaz?"
After the outcry caused by her question, she explained herself and apologized on social media. "If my question hurt anyone, I am sorry. Our job is also to ask the difficult questions; only the answer matters. The tone stemmed from the context: we were talking about the referee's control of the match and were showing violent images when Édouard Mendy arrived," explained Vanessa Le Moigne.
The journalist also praised Sadio Mané, who saved the game by bringing his teammates back onto the pitch. "Sadio Mané will go down in history as the hero of this AFCON! He saved this final by not going back to the locker room and pushing his entire team to play until the very end. The result: a title! Congratulations to Senegal, but also to Morocco for this fantastic run," she continued.
As a reminder, the penalty awarded to Morocco, a minute after a disallowed goal that should have been given to Senegal, sparked outrage among the Lions, who at one point left the pitch in protest. It took Sadio Mané's intervention to convince his teammates to return to the field, even if it meant losing with dignity. The players complied. The rest is history.
