RDC : Vital Kamerhe démissionne de la présidence de l’Assemblée nationale
The President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Vital Kamerhe, announced his resignation on September 22, 2025, under increasing pressure from his peers who accused him of opaque management and a move away from the positions of Head of State Félix Tshisekedi.
A former Minister of Economy and ally of Tshisekedi during the 2018 election, Kamerhe had already led the Assembly between 2006 and 2009 before a conflicted departure.
Convicted in 2020 for embezzlement and acquitted in 2022, he returned to power in 2024.
From New York, where he is attending the UN General Assembly, Félix Tshisekedi downplayed the significance of this resignation, saying he continued to consider Kamerhe as "a brother and an ally."
