Tens of thousands of Sudanese civilians have fled towns and villages as fighting advances across a vast region east of Darfur, just over a week after paramilitary forces captured the town of El-Facher, a UN agency said.
In a statement released Sunday evening, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that 36,825 people had fled five localities in North Kordofan, a state located a few hundred kilometers east of Darfur, a region where the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took the last major stronghold controlled by the army.
