Catastrophe agricole à Niassène : plus de 200 ha de cultures engloutis par les eaux de pluie
The rainy season, usually a source of hope for farmers, turned into a nightmare this year in the commune of Niassène, in the Foundiougne department. Heavy rainfall caused significant flooding, destroying more than 224 hectares of millet, corn, and peanut fields.
"We risk not harvesting anything this year. The rain has destroyed everything," says a farmer, his voice breaking, whose field is now unrecognizable. Like him, many families are seeing their entire season's efforts reduced to nothing.
For local authorities, the situation is alarming. "The losses are inestimable," acknowledges Mayor Moustapha Cissé, who is making an urgent appeal to the state to come to the aid of the disaster-stricken population.
The citizens' movement Aar Suñu Momël, visiting the scene, denounced the government's lack of response. "At least the Minister of Agriculture, Mabouba Diagne, should be there to assess the damage. But since the beginning of this crisis, nothing has been done. It's simply unacceptable," fumed its president, Bassirou Ba, speaking of the authorities' inaction.
This agricultural disaster seriously threatens the harvest season and raises fears of local food insecurity if urgent solutions are not found.
The people of Niassène remain hopeful that President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will intervene quickly to put an end to their ordeal.

Une poisse qui a commencé sous l'ancien régime, ces inondations ne sont pas nouvelles (le prétendu budget d'assainissement de 700 milliards est passé par là).
