From tomorrow, Thursday, November 20th at 8:00 AM until Monday, January 19th, 2026 at 8:00 AM, the Airport Road (Mamelles Lighthouse – Mamelles Roundabout section) will be heavily disrupted due to the installation of the brine discharge pipeline (1200 mm diameter) for the Mamelles seawater desalination plant. Managed by SONES as part of the strategic project to improve the drinking water supply for the Dakar department, these works will last exactly two months.
A diversion plan will be implemented with enhanced signage. The National Gendarmerie and traffic wardens will be mobilized to manage and secure traffic. Motorists are advised to:
Use the marked alternative routes
Reduce speed significantly when approaching the area.
Expect longer travel times, especially during peak hours.
The Prefect of Dakar, Chérif Mouhamadou Blondin Ndiaye, and SONES (the national water and sanitation company) apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank users for their understanding. This work is a key step in the Mamelles desalination project, which is ultimately expected to produce 75,000 m³ of drinking water per day to provide lasting relief to the capital.
