Du Manifeste à la Majorité : Étapes d’un Projet au Service du Peuple (4 Janvier 2014 - 4 Janvier 2026)
Background Note – Origins, Foundation and Vision
On December 1, 2013, the Patriots' manifesto was dated and signed in Dakar. It constitutes the founding act of a new political thought, born from a lucid diagnosis of the state of Senegal and an avowed desire to break with the practices that have progressively distanced public action from the general interest.
As a direct continuation of this manifesto, PASTEF – Les Patriotes was created in January 2014 by a handful of young Senegalese civil servants and other executives from the Administration and civil society, driven by the same requirement: to put Senegal back at the center of its own priorities.
They went to convince Ousmane SONKO to get involved in the project.
From its inception, the party has defined itself as a selfless service to the nation. It elevates work, integrity, and solidarity to the pillars of economic and social development. Its ambition is clear: to break with a disconnected political class, restore the dignity of public action, and rehabilitate patriotism as the driving force of national transformation. This vision, formulated in the 2013 Manifesto of the Patriots, calls for the decommodification of politics and the invention of new paths to development, founded on sovereignty, justice, and responsibility.
Where does PASTEF come from? Has the party already changed?
PASTEF was born in a context of profound disillusionment, inherited from the post-independence decades marked by repeated promises, unfinished reforms, and a gradual loss of collective bearings. Faced with this institutional and moral quagmire, the Patriots' movement stands as a compass to restore meaning to the words State, Nation, and common good.
Through patient work characterized by explanation, organization, and close engagement with citizens, PASTEF has successfully refocused the political debate on the essentials: economic sovereignty, social justice, control of national resources, and responsible leadership. This approach has gradually led the country out of the darkness of resignation by restoring the Senegalese people's confidence in their ability to take control of their collective destiny.
A political assassination attempt foiled
Faced with this dynamic, one objective became clear to those disturbed by the change: to politically eliminate Ousmane Sonko, president of PASTEF, by any means necessary. Attempts followed one after another, without success. Ultimately, it was through a conviction of a highly political, rather than legal, nature that his opponents sought to exclude him from the 2024 presidential election, unjustly stripping him of his eligibility.
Far from weakening the project, this ordeal revealed its strength. It confirmed that PASTEF is not an individual venture, but a collective, structured, embodied project, capable of withstanding pressures and adapting without abandoning its principles.
Why is PASTEF a historic opportunity for Senegal?
Recent history in Senegal shows that other parties, other regimes, and other promises have failed to bring about lasting change in the country. The same methods have produced the same results. PASTEF, on the contrary, offers a controlled break with the past, rooted in a coherent vision and an ethic of responsibility.
This moment is decisive. It is not simply a change of majority or political generation, but a rare opportunity for national renewal. To miss this chance is to accept the repetition of past failures; to seize it is to choose to build a sovereign, just, and respected Senegal.
Call to action – For a patriotic force in service of Senegal
The future of Senegal cannot rest on one man alone, nor on an isolated party. It requires the conscious and responsible mobilization of all stakeholders:
– The politicians who are leading the project must ensure that they stay the course and are open to others who are capable of contributing to the country's recovery.
– Citizens are asked to remain engaged, vigilant and demanding, so that public action remains faithful to the general interest.
– For managers, technicians and state agents, it becomes imperative to put their skills at the service of national recovery, in a spirit of loyalty and rigor.
– It is up to the youth and the diaspora to continue to carry the energy of change, innovation and openness.
– To economic and social partners, a framework based on clarity, sovereignty and balanced cooperation is proposed.
Joining or supporting PASTEF is not about adhering to a slogan. It is about committing to a patriotic force, guided by a single compass: the greater interest of Senegal and all Senegalese people.
Project trajectory and consolidation
This framework lays the foundation: a vision, a method, and a moral imperative. The following sections put into perspective the trajectory of the Patriots' project, from its initial development phase to its central role in national life, and then to its entry into a phase of action and transformation, expected to deliver concrete results for the benefit of the people.
Chronological landmarks 2013–2025
2013: signing of the Patriots' Manifesto in Dakar, the foundation of a doctrine of responsibility, sovereignty and the refounding of the link between the State and citizens.
2014: creation of PASTEF – the Patriots, structuring of the organization, clarification of the direction and progressive installation of a discourse of rupture based on public ethics.
2015–2018: implementation phase, training of managers, militant consolidation, rise in national visibility and affirmation of a results-oriented economic patriotism.
2019: first major national electoral breakthrough which confirms the existence of a sustainable political space for a credible alternative led by youth and forces of change.
2020–2022: acceleration of citizen mobilization and strengthening of territorial anchoring; PASTEF consolidates its capacity to unite and structure hope around a state project.
2023: a year of intense political pressure, which tests the resilience of the project; the movement transforms adversity into cohesion, discipline and organizational maturity.
2024: culmination of a historical sequence; alternation and opening of a new cycle based on sovereignty, social justice and the refounding of public action.
2024–2025: institutional consolidation and acceleration of projects; popular demand focuses on the cost of living, energy, employment, governance and control of national resources.
December 31, 2025: PASTEF faces a major responsibility: to convert the strength of the project into visible, measurable and shared impacts, without deviating from the founding principles.
Conclusion
PASTEF's merit for Senegal lies in its remarkable trajectory: an idea that became a movement, a movement that became a structured force, and a structured force poised to produce lasting results. The nation expects tangible transformation, benefiting all segments of the country, in social peace, equity, and dignity.
