Let's save Senegal! This is a cry from the heart, a patriotic appeal that I am making to our leaders, our religious guides, our intellectuals and all citizens who carry this country in their soul.
We are at a crucial juncture. Behind the scenes, some are acting not out of love for Senegal, but to sow discord, burn bridges, pit allies against each other, and weaken national cohesion. These maneuvers do not serve the people; they serve personal ambitions.
Today, self-appointed commentators, opportunistic “experts,” short-sighted politicians, and external lobbyists presume to speak on behalf of the Senegalese people. But this people aspires neither to chaos, nor hatred, nor confrontation.
The Senegalese people want stability, employment, social peace, and development. These are the values that make our nation strong. Those who play with the fire of division bear a heavy responsibility before history.
Let's look around us. In France, a country with a strong institutional framework, political instability has plunged the nation into a crisis of governance.
In less than a year, three Prime Ministers — Michel Barnier, François Bayrou and Sébastien Lecornu — have been overthrown or forced to resign because of a fragmented National Assembly and repeated motions of censure.
The result: a paralyzed country, blocked reforms, a divided society.
When the parliamentary majority becomes an instrument of obstruction rather than a tool of governance, democracy is suffocated.
The French example should alert us: without consensus, no government can govern sustainably.
Ousmane Sonko retains all his political legitimacy and his seat in the National Assembly. But let's be clear: if he were to decide to take his seat with a parliamentary majority loyal to him, he could make the country ungovernable.
This is not what the Senegalese people want. Instability benefits no one. It jeopardizes reforms, social cohesion, and the hopes of an already hard-hit youth.
The real benefit for Senegal is that these two friends, this tandem carrying a great national project, work together, in complementarity and loyalty.
Pitting them against each other weakens the very foundation of our political stability.
Uniting them gives Senegal a unique chance to recover, innovate and build an African model of peaceful governance.
The time has come to talk to each other, to listen to each other, and to move beyond ego clashes.
Religious leaders, wise men, civil society actors — your voice matters.
Politicians — your responsibility is immense.
Citizens — your vigilance is our last line of defense.
We only have one country. And that country is called Senegal.
Let us preserve it, unite it, love it.
Before it's too late.
