Culture, tourisme, artisanat : Amadou Ba tire la sonnette d'alarme et propose des réformes radicales
The Minister of Culture, Crafts and Tourism, Amadou Ba, sounded the alarm during the examination of his ministry's 2026 budget at the National Assembly this Monday, December 8th. He declared that the three sectors are in crisis, citing "insufficient funding, non-existent infrastructure and poorly structured sectors," requiring urgent overhaul, according to him.
Speaking about the cultural sector, he emphasized its urgent need for an atlas and dedicated funding. "We know our cultural sites from school, but not in real life," lamented Amadou Ba. To address this, he proposed a national cultural atlas. But visibility alone is not enough. The minister advocated for specific funding, beyond just public funds. And to make culture accessible to all, a national cultural channel will soon be launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication.
On the same note, Senegalese tourism suffers from a lack of reliable statistics and poor governance. Taking the example of SAPCO, he stated that the organization is accumulating debt and dysfunction. He emphasized that "More than 500 employees cost 4 billion CFA francs annually, and some directors are paid more than the salary scale. As long as this situation remains unresolved, nothing will move forward," the minister warned. He also stressed that the tourism offering must be rethought and adapted to attract visitors and investors.
Regarding the third sector of his ministry, Amadou Ba stated that the crafts sector needs structuring and the development of local supply chains. "Crafts remain poorly structured," he said. The minister announced the creation of a large automotive center for spare parts and used cars, while also calling for the promotion of locally sourced, certified grains, integrated into universities, military barracks, and other public institutions. This initiative aims to support national production and stimulate the local economy. Amadou Ba thus outlined an ambitious reform aimed at restoring Senegal's cultural, touristic, and artisanal assets. "A colossal challenge, but essential for the country's influence and sustainable development," he concluded.

Les metiers de l’artisanat, en tout cas en Europe, regroupent un tres large ensemble de professions où l’on fabrique, transforme, répare ou cree des produits et services, généralement de manière manuelle. Le secteur du batiment et des travaux publics en fait effectivement parti, avec notamment les macons, les charpentier... les plombiers, les electriciens, carreleurs, peintres... Ils sont tous considérés comme artisans. Un rapide tour dans google me donne a peu pres cette liste : les menuisiers, les serrurier et metalliers. Donc ce ne sont pas seulement les metiers d'ébenistes, de sculpteurs, bijoutiers, maroquiniers etc. Il y a aussi d'ailleurs les boulangers, les bouchers, vendeurs de café dans les rues de Dakar, tout le petit commerce, les poissonniers, charcutiers, les coiffeurs, les estheticiennes, les mecaniens effectivement, les chauffeurs de taxis, les boutiquiers du coin, les tailleurs, les reparateurs d’appareils informatique, électroménager...
Et apres vous voulez vendre les seuls sites qui génèrent des visiteurs comme lac rose

Le ministre annonce la création d’un grand centre automobile de pièces détachées et de voitures d’occasion, tout en appelant à la valorisation des céréales locales, certifiées et intégrées dans les universités, casernes et autres structures publiques. Une initiative qui vise à soutenir la production nationale et stimuler l’économie locale.
