Kédougou célèbre la diversité culturelle à travers la 7ᵉ édition du Festival des Minorités Ethniques

The regional capital of Kédougou vibrates to the rhythm of drums, dances and traditional songs on the occasion of the 7th edition of the Festival of Ethnic Minorities, this year under the theme: "Culture without borders, vector of social cohesion".

This major event, which has become an unmissable event in the region's cultural calendar, celebrates the richness and diversity of the cross-border communities of Senegal and Guinea, united by a common history, values and traditions.

Culture, a bridge between peoples

At the heart of this edition, the organizers wanted to highlight the role of culture as an instrument of peace, dialogue, and social cohesion in a region marked by ethnic plurality. Panels, conferences, and thematic discussions are planned to address the impact of borders on local populations and demonstrate how culture remains a living link between peoples, beyond geographical divisions.

A colorful parade

The town of Kédougou set the tone this Friday morning with a large traditional parade led by the Bédick, Dialonké, and Bassari communities. Dances, songs, traditional costumes, and typical instruments filled the streets in a festive and fraternal atmosphere, symbolizing unity in diversity.

Exhibitions and intangible heritage in the spotlight

As a prelude to the festival, a cultural exhibition opened its doors at the Regional Cultural Center of Kédougou, highlighting the richness of craftsmanship, clothing and symbolism of Bassari heritage.

The festival will also be marked by two highlights: the closing of the first phase of the “On the Trail of the Chameleon” program, an initiative dedicated to promoting cultural heritage, and the celebration of the International Day for Intangible Cultural Heritage, recalling the importance of preserving ancestral knowledge and practices.

A meeting of sharing and unity

More than just a cultural event, the Kédougou Festival of Ethnic Minorities asserts itself as a space for encounters, mutual recognition, and the celebration of living together. It vividly illustrates the motto of the chosen theme: a culture without borders, for a united and peaceful society.
