Dakar, carrefour d’une diplomatie parlementaire islamique en mutation
On September 1, 2025, the Senegalese capital hosted the 54th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Union of OIC Member Parliaments, chaired by Malick Ndiaye. By bringing together parliamentarians and diplomats from all member states, Dakar has established itself as a platform where the political balance of power in the Muslim world is being redefined.
The discussions focused on sensitive issues shaping the contemporary international scene, from the Palestinian cause to the fight against terrorism to the protection of women and children. But what distinguished this edition was the emphasis on more inclusive governance, with a focus on the role of women parliamentarians and a strong desire to make interreligious dialogue a central diplomatic tool.
For Senegal, chairing this meeting is not just a ceremonial function. It reinforces its image as a reliable mediator and a pivotal player in building parliamentary diplomacy based on consultation and the sharing of experiences. The country, already renowned for its political stability and tradition of dialogue, is positioning itself as a bridge between Africa and the rest of the Muslim world.
This meeting thus marks an evolution of the PUIC, which seeks to move from a declaration forum to a true chamber of influence where parliaments become instruments of international cooperation. Dakar will have embodied, during this session, the ambition of a more modern Islamic parliamentary diplomacy open to the dynamics of its time.
