USA - SENEGAL : Ce dont Éric Meyer, Sous-Secrétaire adjoint américain au Trésor, et Abdourahmane Sarr ont discuté
Eric Meyer, the US Assistant Secretary of State for the Middle East and Africa at the US Treasury Department, was received this Tuesday by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation of Senegal, Abdourahmane Sarr.
With Senegal facing unprecedented budgetary difficulties, discussions have largely revolved around financial aspects. Now that the international financial market has become inaccessible to Senegalese authorities due to the suspension of the IMF program, the Senegalese government is raising funds on the local financial market.
Thus, during his discussions with Mr. Meyer, Abdourahmane Sarr informed him of the resilience of the regional market in financing states, according to a publication from the Ministry of Economy.
The minister also stressed the need "to accelerate the development of off-balance-sheet financing for the State, particularly through mechanisms for recycling public assets, in order to mobilize additional resources for financing structural investments," the same source reports.
Eric Meyer, Assistant Secretary of State for African and Middle Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, oversees the Treasury's engagement with 59 economies in Africa and the Middle East. He also monitors economic and financial sectors, provides analysis, and offers policy advice.
He served as Assistant Under Secretary for International Development Policy in the offices of the U.S. Executive Directors of the IMF and the World Bank. He also represented the Treasury for Europe in Frankfurt.
As Acting Assistant Undersecretary and Director for Europe and Eurasia, he also coordinated the Department's engagement and response to financial and economic crises in Europe between 2006 and 2010.
