Pêches et Économie maritime : Le budget 2026 en Baisse de 19 %, recentrage sur la durabilité et l'économie Bleue
The 2026 draft budget of the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy was examined and adopted this Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The budget, defended by Minister Fatou Diouf, records a significant decrease which necessitates a refocusing of priorities on the sustainable management of fisheries resources.
For the 2026 financial year, the total budget of the ministry is set at 32,546,528,804 CFA francs, compared to 40,039,641,597 CFA francs in 2025. This represents a decrease of 7.48 billion CFA francs, or -19% in relative value.
This reduction is caused by a double contraction. Internal resources fell from 27.18 billion CFA francs to 24.55 billion CFA francs. External resources fell from 12.86 billion CFA francs to 8 billion CFA francs.
The 2026 budget is structured around four programs that reflect the refocusing on the sector's vital functions:
Maritime economy: 14.25 billion CFA francs
Fishing and Aquaculture: 11.53 billion CFA francs
CEPIA (Center for Studies and Industrial and Artisanal Fishing): 3.50 billion CFA francs
Steering, coordination and administrative management: 3.27 billion CFA francs
“Fishing is one of the pillars of our economy and national food security. Every investment must help to better protect the resource and support our stakeholders, from sea to land,” said Minister Fatou Diouf.
The ministry will also continue the implementation of key projects concerning the processing of seafood products and the modernization of landing infrastructure.
