Réduction des émissions de méthane : L’engagement du ministère de l’Énergie pour une industrie pétrolière sénégalaise modèle en Afrique
Senegal aims to become the African benchmark for sustainable oil management. At a workshop organized on Tuesday, January 27, under the auspices of the African Union Energy Commission (AFREC), Cheikh Niane, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, announced Senegal's commitment to reducing methane emissions. This strategy aims to reconcile resource exploitation with environmental protection.
"The Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines is committed to strengthening the reduction of methane emissions in order to make our oil industry an African model of good management and environmental responsibility," said Mr. Niane, as reported by the Senegalese Press Agency.
According to Cheikh Niane, this option will "strengthen the sustainability, security and performance of the energy sector", as Senegal has made a "clear, deliberate and consistent choice of responsible energy development, low in emissions and in accordance with the best international standards".
For his part, the representative of AFREC, Mekhdi Khouli, emphasizes that "achieving a sustainable and low-carbon energy future is an essential objective that requires a strong vision and a constant commitment from governments."
